Rear suspension inspection: tire size and condi-
tion.
•
Do not rotate the tires. Tire sizes differ from
front-to-rear and are directional.
•
Do not use mis-matched tires.
•
Original Equipment is:
Carlisle brand
AT489 model direction-specific trail tire
Front: 26x10.00-12 size
Rear: 26x11.00-12 size
Other tires may be used in future production.
•
Because the vehicle is equipped with trail tires,
tire wear will be accelerated if the vehicle is used
heavily on paved surfaces.

Checking the rear suspension ride height
See Figure 5.2.
4a. Check rear ride height on a firm level sur-
face, with the front seats and cargo box
empty, and the tires properly inflated.
4b. Prior to checking ride height, roll the vehi-
cle back and forth, bouncing it slightly to
settle the suspension.
4c. There should be 12” (30.5cm) between the
bottom of the frame and the ground, and
the vehicle should be level.
NOTE:
A low tire or broken spring at the front of
the vehicle can effect the ride height at the rear
of the vehicle.

Checking the rear wheel camber:
•
What is camber angle? Camber angle is
explained in Chapter 4-Front Suspension and
Steering.
•
Rear wheel camber is adjustable through spring
tension. If camber is out of specification beyond
this adjustment, it is due to worn or damaged
parts that should be replaced.
5a. Empty the load box so that the vehicle is
at its normal ride height.
5b. Position a framer’s square vertical against
a plain area on the sidewall of the tire. It
should touch the lower part of the side-
wall, but there should be a gap between
the framer’s square and the upper part of
the sidewall.
5c. Measure the distance between the
framer’s square and the upper sidewall
using an adjustable square.
5d. Camber should be 1.25 + .25 deg. nega-
tive: See Figure 5.3.
•
3/8” (95mm) distance between the framer’s
square and the upper sidewall indicates 1.5 deg.
of negative camber.
•
Each 1/16” is equivalent to .25 degrees at a
height of 21.5” (54.6cm).
•
With the vehicle empty and the tires properly
inflated, sidewall bulge is negligible.
