The MGW-1 requires a 50

Ω

impedance antenna

extension cable such as RG-58U (up to 10 m (33 ft) in length) for
proper operation.

Caution – Antennas threaded onto a mount should be tightened
only by hand. Over tightening may cause damage to the antenna.
Damage caused by over tightening is not covered under
warranty.

4.2.6 AVL-1

The AVL-1 is designed for installation inside of a vehicle.

The AVL-1 has three ports: an AM/FM antenna input port, an AM/FM
radio output port, and a beacon signal output port. The AVL-1 is
powered by the beacon receiver, using the voltage applied to the center
conductor of the coaxial cable.

To install the AVL-1:

•

Unplug the AM/FM antenna from the AM/FM radio within the vehicle

•

Plug the AM/FM antenna into the AVL-1 port labeled ‘AM/FM Antenna’

•

Plug the port labeled ‘AM/FM Radio’ into the AM/FM radio

•

Connect the SBX-3 Evaluation Module to the AVL-1 port labeled ‘Beacon
receiver’

•

Use tie-wrap, hook and loops, or a similar mechanism to mount the AVL-1
in a convenient location.

4.2.7 Routing and Securing the Antenna Cable

CSI Wireless antennas require a 50

Ω

impedance antenna extension

cable such as RG-58U for proper operation.

Beacon-only antennas may be interfaced to a receiver with up to 150 m
(492 ft) of RG-58U coaxial cable. Antennas incorporating a GPS
antenna (MGL-3 or MGW-1) may be interfaced to a beacon/GPS
receiver with up to 10 m (30 ft) of RG58 coaxial cable due to more
significant signal losses at the higher GPS frequency (1.575 GHz).
