SBX-3 Reference Manual

The primary advantage of an H-field antenna is that it does not require
grounding. This characteristic makes it ideal for use in portable
applications.

The H-field antenna receives broadcast signals that it band-pass filters
and amplifies before passing it to the beacon receiver.

The MBL-3 antenna housing is a rugged, weather-tight, PVC plastic
enclosure with a 1-14-UNS threaded base. A magnetic mount is
available to install this antenna on ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces.

1.9.3 ABL-1 Aircraft Magnetic Field Antenna

This antenna makes use of a similar H-field loop design as the MBL-3,
but is enclosed within a GRP raydome housing for use on either fixed
wing or rotary aircraft. The ABL-1 is installed horizontally on either the
top or bottom of the aircraft fuselage.

1.9.4 MGL-3 Combined GPS / Magnetic Field Antenna

The MGL-3, designed for use with the combined GPS/beacon
receivers, such as the CSI Wireless GBX Series, combines an L1 GPS
antenna and an H-field loop antenna in the same enclosure as the MBL-
3. Both of these elements are active and draw their power from the
receiver. This antenna may be used with separate beacon and GPS
receivers with use of the External Signal Splitter discussed in Section
1.9.7

The primary advantage of an H-field antenna is that it does not require
grounding. This characteristic makes it ideal for use in portable
applications.

As with the MBL-3, this antenna is available with an optional magnetic
mount.
