Section 1. Introduction
1.1. Sphere of Application
E1-XL-IP is a multiplexor enabling transmission of one E1 channel over asynchro-
nous packet transport network.
Note. Hereinafter term “channel E1” is used to designate a data link which is pro -
vided with ITU-T G.703-standard compliant interface for data transmission at nominal
bit rate of 2048 kbps with both framed structure in compliance with ITU-T G.704 (or
PCM-30) standard or unframed.
E1-XL-IP is designed to provide reliable transmission of framed (full or fractional)
or unframed E1 stream over an asynchronous packet network with interruptible delivery
(IP or Ethernet) and traffic optimization by means of data compression and elimination
of idle times.

Typical E1-XL-IP application scheme is shown in the figure above. For interconnec -
tion of two local area networks and PBXs via IP-backbone two devices are used.
