Check Engine Oil
1. Stop the engine and wait several minutes before checking the oil level.
2. Remove the oil fill dipstick. See Figure 23.

3. Check the oil level on the dipstick. With the engine on level ground, the oil
must be between the HIGH and LOW marks on the dipstick.
4. Replace the dipstick and tighten.
Changing Engine Oil
1. Carefully disconnect the spark plug wire and keep it away from the spark
plug. Refer to Figure 24 for spark plug location.

NOTE:
To prevent arcing, keep the disconnected spark plug wire securely
away from the metal parts where arcing could occur.
2. Be sure that the fuel fill cap is on and securely tightened.
3. Clean area around the oil drain plug.
4. Place an approved recyclable oil container under the oil drain plug.
Hydraulic Filter
Change the hydraulic filter every 50 hours of operation. Use only a 10 micron
hydraulic filter. Order part number 723-0405.
Beam & Splitting Wedge
Before each use, lubricate both sides of the beam (where it comes into contact with
the splitting wedge) with engine oil.
Engine
WARNING
If the engine has been running, the muffler, engine head and spark plug
will be very hot. Be careful not to touch any of these components until they
have cooled.
Oil Recommendations
Refer to the viscosity chart (Figure 22) for oil recommendations. Do not over-fill.
Use a 4-stroke, or an equivalent high detergent, premium quality motor oil certified
to meet or exceed U.S. automobile manufacturer’s requirements for service
classification of a minimum level SF or SG (higher letter ratings are acceptable such
as SJ, SL and SM grades). Motor oil will display this designation on the container.

NOTE:
Do not use non-detergent oil or 2-stroke engine oil. It could shorten
the engine’s service life.
