OPERATION
To Start Engine
WARNING
The engine must be started by an adult.
WARNING
Always keep hands and feet clear of moving parts. Do not use a pressurized
starting fluid. Vapors are flammable.
WARNING
If you are unable to start this engine after following instructions in this
manual, contact an authorized service center. To avoid serious burn
injuries or damage to your engine, DO NOT attempt to start or troubleshoot
this engine in any other way. DO NOT use starting fluid, DO NOT spray
flammable vapors into the carburetor, DO NOT put flammable liquids into
carburetor, DO NOT operate engine or pull on starter rope with spark plug
removed because fuel can spray from spark plug hole and ignite
NOTE:
Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes after starting. The engine will
not develop full power until it reaches operating temperatures.
WARNING
DO NOT pull starter rope with engine running. Doing so may VOID YOUR
WARRANTY.
1. To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, be sure engine is outdoors in a well-
ventilated area.
2. Be sure the fuel valve is open.
3. Move the throttle to the FAST position.
4. Set the choke control to CHOKE position.
NOTE: If restarting a warm engine after a short shutdown, move the throttle
control to the FAST position and move the choke control to the RUN
position.
WARNING
When pulling the starter rope, the rope can unexpectedly jerk back toward
the engine causing serious injury. To avoid this risk, carefully follow the
instructions below.
5. Grasp the recoil starter handle.
6. Pull rope out slowly until you feel drag.
7. Without allowing the rope to retract, continue pulling the rope with one
rapid full arm stroke.
8. Return the rope slowly to the original position.
NOTE: Following the instructions listed in the steps above avoids potential
damage to the recoil mechanism.
9. If the recoil starter handle is frozen and will not operate the engine, proceed
as follows:
a. Pull as much rope out of the starter as possible.
b. Release the starter handle and let it snap back against the starter to
break up ice; these two steps should only be done when the starter
is frozen.
Log Tray
The log tray is designed to stabalize the log after it is split.
End Plate
The end plate holds the log in place while the wedge splits the log.
Tongue
The tongue is used to attach to a towing vehicle for transportation.
Choke Control
The choke control is used to choke the carburetor and assist in starting the engine.
The choke control slides between the CHOKE
and RUN positions.
Throttle Control
The throttle control regulates the speed of the engine and will shut off the engine
when it is moved into the STOP
position. The throttle control moves between
the FAST (rabbit), SLOW (turtle) and STOP positions.
