Set-Up
Tire Pressure
The max recommended operating pressure is 30 psi. Do not, under any circumstances,
exceed the manufacturer’s recommended psi. Maintain equal pressure on all tires.
WARNING
Excessive pressure when seating beads may cause tire/rim assembly to
burst with force sufficient to cause serious injury.
Gas & Oil Fill-Up
Service the engine with gasoline and oil as instructed below. Read the instructions carefully.
WARNING
Use extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely
flammable and the vapors are explosive. Never fuel the machine indoors or
while the engine is hot or running.
NOTE:
Your log splitter may be shipped with motor oil in the engine. You MUST
check the oil level before operating. Be careful not to overfill. Gasoline can be
added to the engine when the log splitter is in either the horizontal or vertical
position. However, it may be easier when the splitter is in the vertical position.
Oil
1.
Remove oil fill dipstick.
2.
Check the oil level making certain not to rub the dipstick along the inside
walls of the oil fill tube. This would result in a false dipstick reading. Refill
to between the HIGH (H) and LOW (L) marks on the dipstick, if necessary.
Replace the dipstick and tighten. See Figure 10.
Fill Between
High & Low
Marks
Figure 10
3.
If necessary, with the log splitter on level ground, use a funnel to fill engine
with oil to between the High (H) and Low (L) marks on the dipstick. Be
careful not to overfill. Overfilling will cause the engine to smoke profusely
and will result in poor engine performance.
4.
Check the oil level three times prior to starting the engine to be certain
you’ve gotten an accurate dipstick reading. Running the engine with too
little oil can result in permanent engine damage.
Gasoline
CAUTION
Operating the engine with E85 fuel, an oil/gasoline mixture, dirty gasoline,
or gasoline over 30 days old that has not been stabilized using a fuel
additive, may result in damage to your engine’s carburetor. Subsequent
damage would not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
Use automotive gasoline (unleaded or low leaded to minimize combustion chamber
deposits) with a minimum of 87 octane. Gasoline with up to 10% ethanol or 15% MTBE
(Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) can be used. Never use an oil/gasoline mixture or dirty
gasoline. Avoid getting dirt, dust, or water in the fuel tank. DO NOT use E85 gasoline.
