Upgrading or Replacing the
Array Accelerator
The Compaq SMART-2DH Array Controller is provided with a removable 16-
MB Array Accelerator. Previous versions of the SMART-2 Array Controller
shipped with 4-MB Array Acceleration boards. The Array Accelerator is
mounted on a removable daughter board so that it may be easily removed or
replaced if necessary. Use this procedure when upgrading from the 4-MB to
the 16-MB Array Accelerator board.
The SMART-2DH Controller Array Accelerator option has several unique
features:
■
It accelerates data storage by temporarily caching the data at high
internal bus rates while transferring the data to the drives at their
slower write speeds.
■
It contains its own batteries to keep the data alive without board power,
even if the Array Accelerator is removed from the SMART-2DH
Controller.
■
The memory is Error Checking and Correcting (ECC), providing error
detection and correction reliability.
■
It may be moved to another SMART-2DH Controller to complete the
data transfer should the original SMART-2DH Controller fail.
You may want to remove or replace the Array Accelerator option board if:
■
You want to upgrade from 4-MB cache to 16-MB cache.
■
The Array Accelerator option is no longer needed.
■
The host SMART-2DH Controller board fails and valid data is still
stored in the Array Accelerator.
