1 GENERAL INFORMATION
The RF-9122 family of repeater system implements point-to-multipoint architecture through using a
frequency-shifting technique. Each consists of master unit and remote unit. Their use is to overcome
the antenna isolation problem in conventional repeater system. The variants of RF-9122 is
presented in the table below:

This document is applicable for RF-922 GSM900-GSM1800 Frequency Shifting Repeater
(hereinafter called “system”). The master-unit is coupled either directly or wirelessly to the BTS, and
the master-unit can be connected with a pre-defined number of remote units (IC/EC).
This system is applicable in situation with restricted installation conditions (e.g. insufficient optical
fiber resources) or in location where antenna isolation is difficult to achieve.
Through frequency translation from GSM900 to GSM1800 bands, this system eliminates donor
antenna isolation problem and consequently permits flexible network design.
The chassis can be installed to a wall or on a pole according to the field situation. Donor antenna
and mobile antenna are connected to the repeater with RF coaxial cables.
Characteristics of this equipment are as follows:
z
Eliminate donor antenna isolation problem through frequency translation to the GSM1800 band.
z
Two carriers, independent power amplifier provides effective amplification of signal source.
z
High output power of 10W.
z
Temperature compensation to reduce the effect on system performance due to variation in
temperature.
z
Available in standard P-GSM900 or E-GSM900 bands.
z
Local control and monitoring function: operating status and parameters can be set or monitored
by PC. It also includes testing the received BS signal field intensity to accomplish the donor
antenna debug and checking output power of uplink and downlink.
z
Operation Maintenance Center (OMC): users can use wire line modem or GSM modem to
realize setting and inquiry of repeater working parameters and communication configuration. If
alarm is generated by the remote equipment, it will dial up to OMC automatically or send SMS
to the handset of maintainer.
z
Chassis is designed for all-weather outdoor operation - waterproof, damp-proof and omni-
sealed.
z
Backup battery: backup Li-ion battery for MCU in repeater is used to ensure the alarm
message could be send to maintenance personnel effectively in case of power down. Optional
backup battery for the remote-unit of the repeater can be deployed to guarantee the device to
work normally in area where power supply is unstable.
