PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE POSSIBLE ACTION(S)
Pump will not prime and Pump motor is
NOT running.
1. There is NO power on the
pump circuit from the burner.
2. The pump motor has shut off
on thermal overload.
1. Start the burner and adjust the air
pressure regulator to 15 PSI. (a) If
the amber “pump” light on the burner
comes ON, the pump circuit on the
burner has activated properly. Refer
to the wiring diagram and ladder
schematic in Appendix B to
troubleshoot the pump circuit from the
burner to the pump. (b) If the amber
“pump” light on the burner does NOT
come ON, there is a problem with
pump circuit in the burner. With the
burner running, check for power at the
brown wire on the air pressure switch.
If there is NO power at the brown
wire, replace the burner motor. If
there is power at the brown wire,
replace the air sensing switch.
2. (a) The pump motor is too hot—the
internal thermal protection switch shut
the motor off. Wait for the motor to
cool down; the thermal switch will
automatically reset. Check voltage
and amperage draw of the pump
motor. Call your dealer if the problem
persists. (b) The coupling is not
adjusted properly, keeping the shafts
of the motor and pump from turning
freely. Re-position the coupling so
that both shafts turn freely. (c) The
shaft on the motor or oil pump will not
turn freely. If you can’t turn the
shafts, replace the faulty part(s).
