when sending requests to the PIX Firewall unit. The SNMP community string is a shared
secret among the SNMP management stations and the network nodes being managed. The PIX
Firewall uses the password to determine if the incoming SNMP request is valid. The password
is a case-sensitive value up to 32 characters in length. Spaces are not permitted. The default is
"public".
System administrator name—Enter in the name of the PIX Firewall system administrator.
The text is case-sensitive and can be up to 127 characters. Spaces are accepted, but multiple
spaces are shortened to a single space.

Send syslog messages as SNMP traps—Select this check box to send SNMP trap
notifications to the management station when syslog events occur.

Level—The highest level of detail enabled for syslog messages, from 0 to 7. Level 0 is an
emergency, the most important. The value specified includes all values less than itself. For
example, 3 indicates that messages of level 0, 1, 2, and 3 will be logged and sent to the SNMP
management station. As the value increases, more frequent, but less important messages will
be generated:
Off-disable—Syslog messages via SNMP will not be sent, not a message level.

0-Emergencies—Syslog messages that identify very serious system instabilities
1-Alerts—System integrity issues which require immediate action
2-Critical—Critical operational conditions
3-Errors—Important operational error messages
4-Warnings—Warning messages, such as configuration errors or limit conditions
5-Notifications—Normal events during operation which are considered
significant
6-Informational—Information messages about typical of day-to-day activities
7-Debugging—Configuration debugging and FTP, HTTP, URL command logs

SNMP management station table
Interface—Displays the PIX Firewall interface name where the SNMP management
station resides.

IP Address—Displays the IP address of an SNMP management station to which the
PIX Firewall unit will send trap events and receive requests or polls.

Poll/Trap—Displays the method for communicating with this management station, poll only, trap only, or
both trap and poll. Polling means that the PIX Firewall will wait for a periodic request from the
management station. The trap setting sends syslog events when they occur.

Add—Opens the Add dialog box.
●
Edit—Opens the Edit dialog box.
●
Delete—Deletes the selected item.
●
Apply to PIX—Sends changes made in PDM to the PIX Firewall unit and applies them to the running
configuration.
●
Reset—Discards changes and reverts the panel to the information displayed when it was opened or the last
time
Refresh
was clicked while open.
