Version—The version of RIP, 1 or 2, enabled for this interface. Version 2 is recommended. Use version 1
when backward compatibility is required.

Auth Type—The type of authentication, clear text or MD5, to use when RIP version 2 is enabled. We
recommend using MD5.
●
Authentication Key—The encryption Key, a 16 character text string, shared with routers and other RIP
version 2 devices communicating with PIX Firewall.
●
Key ID—The Key ID (identification), a number between 1 and 255, which must be shared with routers and
other version 2 devices communicating with PIX Firewall.
●
Add—Opens the Add dialog box.
●
Edit—Opens the Edit dialog box.
●
Delete—Deletes the selected item.
●
Apply to PIX—Sends changes made in PDM to the PIX Firewall unit and applies them to the running
configuration.
●
Reset—Discards changes and reverts the panel to the information displayed when it was opened or the last
time
Refresh
was clicked while open.
●
Adding a RIP Interface
Follow these steps to add interfaces to the RIP table.
Click Add to open the Add RIP Configuration dialog box.

Select the interface that you want to add from the interface list of interfaces enabled in
System
Properties—Interfaces
.
2.
Click the action option you want RIP to use, broadcast/multicast default route or passive RIP.

Under version, cick the RIP version you want to use, 1 or 2. If you select version 2, see
RIP Version

4.
If you selected RIP version 2, you may enable authentication by selecting the Enable
Authentication check box.
5.
Enter the Authentication Key that will encrypt RIP updates and shared with other version 2 devices.
6.
Enter the Key ID value to be shared with other version 2 devices in the Key ID value box.
7.
Click OK to approve the addition and return to the RIP panel, the Cancel button to exit with no
changes, or Help for more information.
8.
Editing a RIP Interface Configuration
Follow these steps to edit the RIP configuration of interfaces in the RIP Table.
Select an interface from the RIP table by clicking the line beginning with the name of the interface.

Click Edit to open the Edit RIP Configuration dialog box.

Select the interface that you want to edit from the interface list of interfaces enabled in
System
Properties—Interfaces
.
3.
Click the action option you want RIP to use, broadcast/multicast default route or passive RIP.
