Appendix C Command Summary
Configuration Command Set
Syntax Description
Usage Guidelines
Availability: Serial, Telnet; FIPS Mode (serial only)
This size includes TCP options, but excludes the 40-byte TCP header. We do not
recommend this value be set to a value greater than 40 plus the size of the IP MTU,
or excessive fragmentation could occur. Use the no form of the command to return
the maxseg to the global value. If no global settings exist for a parameter, the
factory default parameter is used instead. See RFC 793 and RFC 879.
mtu
Specifies the size of the maximum IP unit transmitted.
mtu <bytes|default>
no mtu
Syntax Description
Usage Guidelines
Availability: Serial, Telnet; FIPS Mode (serial only)
The mtu value, combined with the maxseg value, affects TCP fragmentation. You
cannot set the mtu to a value less than the maxseg + 40. Use the no form of the
command to return the mtu to the global value. If no global settings exist for a
parameter, the factory default parameter is used instead. See RFC 894.
Note
This parameter can only be set at the global level.

bytes
The size of the maximum IP unit; the valid range is
from 100 to 1500 bytes (inclusive).
