This chapter defines the types of interfaces on the switch and describes how to configure them. Unless
otherwise noted, the term switch refers to a standalone switch and to a switch stack.

Understanding Interface Types
This section describes the different types of interfaces supported by the switch with references to
chapters that contain more detailed information about configuring these interface types. The rest of the
chapter describes configuration procedures for physical interface characteristics.
Note
You cannot use these switch ports:
•
In a switch stack, the internal cross-connect 1000 Mb/s ports are disabled.
•
The stack ports on the front of the switch are not Ethernet ports.
