How it Works
This section describes how offline charging for subscribers works with Rf interface support in GPRS/eHRPD/LTE/IMS
networks.
The following figure and table explain the transactions that are required on the Diameter Rf interface in order to perform
event based charging. The operation may alternatively be carried out prior to, concurrently with or after service/content
delivery.

Rf Call Flow Description for Event Based Charging
Step
Description
1
The network element (CTF) receives indication that service has been used/delivered.
2
The CTF (acting as Diameter client) sends Accounting-Request (ACR) with Accounting-Record-Type AVP set to
EVENT_RECORD to indicate service specific information to the CDF (acting as Diameter server).
3
The CDF receives the relevant service charging parameters and processes accounting request.
4
The CDF returns Accounting-Answer (ACA) message with Accounting-Record-Type AVP set to EVENT_RECORD to the
CTF in order to inform that charging information was received.
The following figure and table explain the simple Rf call flow for session based charging.
