7.3 Sample preparation:
For constituent of thickness or coating-thickness
The output characteristics of the infrared thickness (coating-thickness) meter depend upon measuring
objects. It may also change according to the process conditions or the measuring conditions of
samples.
Also, for accurate thickness and coating- thickness measurements, it is required to perform beforehand sample
tests of each object and obtain a relationship (This is called as the calibration curve.) between the thickness and
coating-thickness constituent (

m) obtained by a micro meter or other measuring methods and the absorbance
“x” measured by this detector unit.

3 to 5 pieces standard is required for measuring the thickness and coating- thickness.
3 pieces standard is the 3 samples that thickness and coating- thickness differs.
(Example) The thinnest thing, thickest thing or the intermediate thing.
2) 3 to 5 pieces of100 mm x 100 mm size is required for 1 standard.
3) The struggling of thickness and coating- thickness sample is required demand accuracy of 1/3 or less
In case that thickness and coating- thickness is 100µm and demand accuracy is

3µm, the thickness and
coating- thickness of sample is required within 99 to 101µm.
7. Procedure for creating calibration curves
Caution
Wear clean gloves on the occasion of handling, so as not to touch the sample
directly.
If checking the front or rear side and flow directions of the sample, it is convenient
in measurement.
