Next, remove shaft rotor assembly from the
turbine housing. Examine the shaft’s outside
diameter for contact marks. (See Figure 1-3 New
Shaft Condition) Typically contact marks can be
found at the bottom of the shaft and at the top.
The contact marks consist of a bronze material
from the air bearings transferring onto the outside
diameter of the shaft.
If contact area observed 360 degrees around
the shaft diameter and it can be felt with your
fingernail as a raised area, then the shaft has
sustained too much damage to be cleaned up.
Return entire turbine motor to Ransburg for an
exchange rebuild unit. (See Figure 1-3A
