DRESS THE DIAMOND SEGMENTS
- If you use the core bit over and over again to drill very hard materials or reinforced concrete, we
suggest you to dress the diamond segments : make 3 or 4 holes (depth : 2 cm), dry drilling, in the
special dressing stone.
-
Warning : Don't hold the stone in your hands during dressing.

HOW TO SET THE CORE BIT
- Always put a brass or bronze washer between the driving shaft and 1 " 1/4 UNC core bits.
- Grease the screw thread of the core bit to avoide oxidation and so make easier removing the core bit.
- If the connection of the core bit is not the same of the bit spindle, threaded adaptors (1/2 G and 1" 1/4
UNC connections) for use between motor connection and core bit are available as accessories.
- Before starting to drill, check that the core bit is tight on the spindle of the motor.
-
Before setting or removing the core bit, switch off the power unit and disconnect the piping
from the power supply system.

ROTATION SPEED
- The revolutions per minute (R.p.m.) suitable for your drilling are in function of
OF THE CORE BIT
the diameter of the hole, the hardness and the consistence of the drilling materials, the scantling of the
reinforcing bars (steel rods), the type of the core bit.
- The speed of the motor is function of the displacement of the motor and of the flow capacity of the
power unit. If you have a variable flow power unit you can set the flow more suitable for the hole you
have to drill.
- To choose the R.p.M. quite right for the diameter of your hole, follow the speed plate on the motor.
- Always reduce rotation speed to drill reinforcing bars (steel rods). After going through steel
rods, come back to the normal speed.
- Turn the gear change lever when the motor is completely stopped, turning by hand the bit
spindle to allow the gear alignment.
- The change lever must be manually operated without using pincers or other tools; for some types it
can turn only half a turn (180°) .

DRILLING
- Warning : Before switching ON the motor, be sure that the hydraulic power unit has a pressure
adjustment set for max. operating pressure 150bar for HYDRO 1-25 and 180bar for HYDRO 1-50,
HYDRO 1-80, HYDRO 1-100
- When starting do leave open all the drain valve until the oil flow clean, without foam, to eliminate the
air that can have been infiltrated in the piping.
- Start the motor with a low load and, during the starting period, choose a low speed.
The environment temperature must be comprised between -30°C and +100°C for being sure that the
gasket of the core bit shaft maintains its characteristics.
The oil temperature must be comprised b30 and +60C during the normal operations
- With the motor completely stopped select the correct R.p.M. for your drilling.
- Then start the motor moving the lever of the start valve, and hold the core bit far from your drilling
surface. Always use the command lever in one of the two positions, completely open or completely
closed
- Open the water and check for the correct quantity to flow. Approach the core bit to your drilling
material using the hand wheel and with a very light pressure make the first centimetres of the hole.
Correct alignment at start of drilling is of most importance !
If you do as above, you avoid that the core bit runs off line during drilling.
- The maladjustment of the core bit causes a big power loss because of an excessive side friction.
So the core bit can jam and oblige you to give up going on with drilling.
- The same if your rig is not rigidly fixed and it moves a little.
- If the core bit runs not true but sideways and you can't go on with drilling, move a little the axis of
the hole; if you can't do it give up making the hole and make another hole, with the same axis of the
first one ("over-drilling"), but with an higher diameter (the first hole's di 15/20 mm).
- After truing increase the thrust on the hand wheel until you reach the correct speed.
- If the thrust is not enough, you cause the friction polishing of the diamond segments and the
cutting capacity of the core bit goes down; on the other hand, if the thrust is too heavy, you cause a
severe wear of the diamond segments.
If the core drill stops suddenly because of lack of power, move the command lever to the stop
position.
- Warning : During drilling keep your hands far from core bit.
Wear close fitting clothing without loose ends. Remove loose flitting ornaments and be sure that long
hair is secured or closely covered.

HOW TO CUT STEEL RODS
- When you see that :
FOR REINFORCED-CONCRETE
- the core bit goes ahead very slowly,
- the force you have to make on the hand wheel increases,
- the water going out of the hole is clear
and there are some metallic splints in it
you are going through the steel rods for reinforced-concrete.
-
So you have to reduce both the force (thrust) on the core bit and the rotation speed of the
motor, selecting a lesser speed until you finish cutting the rods.

SPECIAL DRILLING MATERIALS
- When you are making the hole and you find wood, cork, rubber, foam polystyrene, it's quite likely
that the core bit does not go through them.
- Pull the core out of the drilled hole and remove all the material keeping you from proceeding. Then you
go on with your drilling.
- If you cannot remove these obstructing materials, stop drilling and make the hole in another position.
