SPECIFIC INFORMATION
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Summary
The CAMP Safety harnesses are conceived for the use in industry, construction, rescue organisations and, in general, for
any kind of work at height.
Depending on the type of activity and the risk assessment, it is mandatory to choose the type and model of harness that is
more suitable, following the instructions reported in this manual.
Use
In order to get a perfect fit, choose your size according to the indication of
table A
. Also, the user should carry out a
suspension test in a safe place to ensure that the harness is the correct size, has sufficient adjustment and is of an
acceptable comfort level for the intended use. Fall Factor is a rating used to evaluate the danger of specific scenarios
when working at heights is calculated using the following equation: Fall Factor = Height of Fall / Length of Lanyard. In
situations where the Fall Factor will be 0 (e.g. the worker is positioned under the anchor point on a tensioned lanyard) or in
situations where the Fall Factor is 1 or less and the freedom of movement is limited to 0,6 m or less, positioning equipment
is adequate. Fall arrest equipment must be used for other situations where the Fall Factor is greater than 1 or more
freedom of movement is required (
fig.1
).
The use of this equipments, combined with other components of the personal protective equipment, must be conform to
these instructions of use and to the current standards (
fig.10
).
For a correct use and for the connection to a safe anchor point, to a subsystem (for example energy absorber, a lanyard
and a connector) and other components, see
fig.2-10
. Connection to the fall-arrest o positioning system must be
exclusively done by means of the fall-arrest or positioning attachment points, as specified in
fig-2-7
; any connection to
gear loops/gear rings or to any other component of the harness is strictly forbidden. The anchor point must have a
strength according to EN 795 (>15 kN).
Before and during use, check the correct closure and right adjustment of all the buckles and connectors Main material:
polyester, metal parts.
The text below shows the different kinds of harnesses: one harness can incorporate one or more of those kinds (
chart.A
).
Allowed combinations of sit harness and chest harness are exclusively the ones reported in in
chart.A
.
EN 361: FULL BODY HARNESSES
Fall arrest full body harnesses are used in connection with other components of a fall
arrest system. The free distance below the working surface must be calculated in order to avoid any impact in the event of
a fall. Attachment points for fall arrest are exclusively the one(s) placed on the chest part of the body and identified with “A”
(or A/2+A/2) marking.
EN 813: SIT HARNESSES
Sit harnesses are used in rope access systems or work positioning systems. The maximum
rated load of the CAMP Safety sit harnesses is reported on the label. Prolonged suspension can result in injuries on the
human body, and can result in death in case of inert suspension of the user. Regular pauses from the suspension must be
done in order to avoid any dangerous effect on the human body. Attachment point for suspension is exclusively the ventral
one.
EN 358: BELT FOR WORK POSITIONING
Work positioning belts are used with a positioning lanyard to secure the
worker to the structure. The anchor point must be positioned at the belt height or above and/or to prevent the person from
reaching zones with falling hazard. Attachment points for work positioning and restraint can be ventral, side or back. Side
points must be always used together.
EN 813 sit harnesses and EN 358 belts for work positioning can not be used alone for fall arrest purposes. It may be
necessary to integrate them with systems for fall protection: collective (i.e. safety nets) or individual (fall arrest systems
conforming to EN 363).
For the correct use of gear loops, see
fig.11
. For the installation of a chest ascender, where possible, see
fig.12
. For the
installation of foot-loops for the prevention of suspension trauma (HelpStep ref.2062), see
fig.13
(supplied separately).
For the use of an additional rigid seat for improving the comfort in suspension, see
fig.14
.
Certified rescue equipment and trained rescue workers are necessary for intervention in case of a fall, in order to
minimize the risk of suspension trauma.
ANSI/ASSE use
Certified models for ANSI/ASSE use (U.S. standard) are reported in
chart.A
and the standard number is marked on the
label of the harness.
Z359.1: full body harness. Z359.3: harness for work positioning and restraint.
In addition to the other instructions reported in this manual, the following precautions must be taken.
