Chapter 4. Router Configuration

Planning for Router Configuration

This section describes configuration terminology and the information that you
need to collect before configuring the router.

Important Terminology

You should familiarize yourself with the following terminology, as it will be
used throughout the configuration process. The diagram illustrates these key
words/concepts.

Target router:

Router that you are configuring. Also referred to as

local

router.

Remote routers:

All the routers to which the target (local) router may

connect.

Remote router database:

Database which resides in the target router and

contains information about the remote routers to which the target router may
connect.

Remote router entry

: Entry about a remote router in the target router

database. A remote router entry defines:

Connection parameters

•

Security features

•

Route addressing and bridging functions
