Create a volume by referring to the “Creating a Volume” section in chapter 3.
Replacing a Non-Malfunctioning Drive
Do not replace a drive that is not malfunctioning.
If you must change a drive that is not malfunctioning, shut down the TeraStation before replacing the drive. If you
need to replace more than one drive at the same time, replace the drives one at a time to preserve your data. When
replacing the non-malfunctioning drive, follow the procedures below:
Operating in Striped Volume
All data on the volume will be deleted after replacing the drive. You will not be able to use the TeraStation until
the drive has been replaced. Refer to the ““SYSTEM DOWN” Is Displayed on the LCD Panel” section above for the
procedure.
Operating in a Redundant Volume Other Than Striped Volume
If you are using a redundant volume such as RAID 5 or 6, the volume will be in degraded mode after replacing the
drive. You need to recover from degraded mode by replacing the drive. Refer to the ““ONE DRIVE DOWN” Is Displayed
on the LCD Panel” section above for the procedure.
