Using a Modem 341

6. Type your message in the dialog box.
7. Edit the text as needed.
8. Click on Send.

Your message appears on the other computer's or word

processor'sscreen.

9. Choose Hang Up from the Dial menu.

10. Click on Close to close the dialog box.

Sending text using the clipboard

You can copy text from Word Processing or other applications and send it

to another computer or word processor. For example, suppose you have

an announcement that you have written in Text File Editor. You can open

the file in Text File Editor, and copy the message to the clipboard. Next,

you can paste the contents of the clipboard into the Communication

window. When you do this, Communication sends the text to the other

computer or word processor just as if you had typed it into the

Communication screen.

To send the contents of your clipboard:

1. Open the file containing the text you want to send.
2. Hold down the left mouse button, and drag the cursor across the text to

highlight the text.

3. Choose Copy from the Edit menu to copy the text to the clipboard.
4. Insert the Diskette 2.
5. Click on the File Manager icon on the Main Menu.
6. Double-click on Communications.
7. If you have not connected to the other computer, see Getting Ready to

Communicate" on page 336.

8. When you see CONNECT on the screen, click on Close on the Dial menu.
9. Choose Paste from the Edit menu.

Ensemble sends the contents of your

clipboard to the other computer or word processor.

10. To exit, choose Hang Up from the Dial menu; then press

EXIT

.

Sending ASCII text files

You can send text files saved on diskette. This method does not check for

errors, so there is no guarantee that the information arrives exactly as it

was typed.

To send an ASCII text file created in Text File Editor:

1. Create a document in Text File Editor to make an ASCII text file.
2. Insert Diskette 2.
3. Click on the File Manager icon on the Main Menu.
4. Double-click on Communications and connect to the other computer.

See Getting Ready to Communicate" on page 336 for information on

connecting.

5. Insert the diskette with the file you want to send.

Before sending a DOS text file, it
is good practice to check whether
or not the receiving computer
requires linefeeds. Linefeeds
prevent text from typing over
itself.
