Problems

Possible Solutions

LEDs fail to come on when power is

applied

Check that main connector power supply is

properly connected to J2.

Check that switch SW1 is turned on (all the

way up).

Check that the power supply is plugged in

to wall.

Check the jumper settings as suggested in

Table 5.

Devices fail to configure

Check that correct program file is chosen.

Check that the USB Blaster cable is

installed correctly to J17 (check pin one

indicator on cable)

Check that the JTAG Bypass jumpers (J40)

are set appropriately.

Check that the board is put into SAFE

mode before loading each .bat file.

Design does not work properly

If using on-board oscillators, check that

jumpers (J36, J39) are placed across pins 1

and 2.

Check that cables are installed correctly.

Check that correct program file is chosen.

Check that correct push buttons and dip

switches are being used.

Check that dip switches, if used, are at the

correct values. See Table 3.

Ensure that the cards are fully seated

(DDR2 DIMM).

Check that the PROTO1 Test Card is

installed and fully seated.

RS-232 connection not working

Check that RS-232 connector is plugged

into correct port (on board and on PC).

Diagnostic Test Details

3.3.1

User I/O & Nios Features Test

The User I/O and Nios® features of the Stratix® II Memory Board 2 are tested using a

Nios II-based system controlled by a host computer. The host computer runs the board

test system (BTS), and the tool command language (TCL)-based application using the

Quartus® II TCL application program interface (API). The BTS host application uses an

RS-232 cable connected to the Stratix II Memory Board 2 to communicate with the Nios

system.
