Chapter 3 Features and Functions

Frequency Modulation (FM)

Modulating Waveform Shape

The waveform generator will accept an internal or external modulation
source for FM.

• Modulating waveform shape (

internal source

): Sine (default), Square,

Pulse, UpRamp, DnRamp, Triangle, Noise, or PRBS

• Square has 50% duty cycle

• UpRamp has 100% symmetry

• Triangle has 50% symmetry

• DnRamp has 0% symmetry

• Noise - white gaussian noise

• PRBS - Pseudo Random Bit Sequence (polynomial PN7)

• You can use noise as the modulating waveshape, but you

cannot

use

noise, arbitrary waveforms, or

as the carrier waveform.

•
