Performing Surface Check
The surface check function, which is only available in RAID levels 1 and 5, prevents double faults
from occurring when an error correcting code (ECC) fault is encountered while the ArrayMasStor is
operating in degraded mode. The ArrayMasStor has a function that corrects ECC faults by
overwriting the area containing the fault. The ArrayMasStor uses three methods to check data.
•
Surface check: This scans the entire data area for ECC faults and reconstructs and overwrites
errors
•
Parity regeneration: In RAID Level 5, this regenerates each parity-block and rewrites it to the
drives
•
Random check: This scans random storage areas for ECC faults and fixes the errors.
IMPORTANT !
It is strongly recommended that these checks implement to
ensure data and parity consistency.
