u
Avoid any contamination of the etched surface. If
contamination occurs, repeat the etching, rinsing, and
drying.
u
Continue immediately with the application of the
adhesive.
u
After etching, remove the etching gel needle tip from
the syringe and replace the cap. Dispose of the etching
gel needle tip.
Application of Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive to
the Tooth Structure (Optional, Depending on the Type
of Material and Indication)
RelyX Universal must be used with Scotchbond Universal
Plus Adhesive and enamel etching for restorations that
require maximum adhesive strength to the enamel
(veneers, occlusal veneers/tabletops, Maryland and
inlay/onlay bridges). For all other indications, RelyX
Universal may be used with or without Scotchbond Uni-
versal Plus Adhesive, provided that the instructions for
the restorative material do not stipulate otherwise. RelyX
Universal may be used solely with Scotchbond Universal
Plus Adhesive. Other adhesives have not been approved
for use.
u
Pour the required quantity of Scotchbond Universal Plus
in a mixing well.
u
Protect the adhesive in the mixing well from light.
u
Carefully close the bottle tightly after dosing. The lid
perceptibly snaps into place when pressed.
u
Avoid any contamination with blood, saliva, or sulcus
fluid during application.
u
A rubber dam is recommended to keep the treated area
sufficiently dry.
u
Use the disposable applicator to apply the adhesive to
the entire tooth structure and rub it in for 20 sec. Avoid
contact between the adhesive and the oral mucosa.
u
If necessary, rewet the disposable applicator during
treatment.
u
Subsequently direct a gentle stream of air over the liquid
for a minimum of 5 sec until it no longer moves and the
solvent has evaporated completely. In case of application
in the root canal, remove any excess with a paper tip and
blow a gentle stream of air over it for 5 sec as well.
u
Light curing of Scotchbond Universal Plus is not required;
it may optionally be polymerized for 10 sec at a light
wavelength range between 400 nm and 500 nm with
any commonly available light-curing device.
Preparation of the Automix Syringe Before Application of
the Cement
When Using a New RelyX Universal Automix Syringe
u
Remove the Automix Syringe from the foil pouch imme-
diately before use only and discard the foil pouch.
u
After removal from the foil pouch, RelyX Universal resin
cement must be completely used within 6 months and
before lapse of the expiration date, so the date of removal
from the pouch must be noted in a suitable place.
Before Every Application
u
If the Automix Syringe has been stored in a refrigerator,
allow it to reach room temperature before use.
u
There is a built-in rotary valve at the front opening of the
Automix Syringe that protects the cement. This valve
will open, allowing the paste to be extruded, only if the
mixing tip has been attached correctly.
u
Do not attach the mixing tip until immediately before use;
lock it into place by turning it 90° in the direction of the
printed arrow until it stops. This motion opens the Auto-
u
Sandblast surfaces to be cemented. Use 30 µm to
50 µm aluminum oxide at a pressure of 2 bar (30 psi) to
obtain a rough, matte surface.
u
Clean the blasted surface with alcohol and dry it with
water-free and oil-free air.
u
If sandblasting was done before the trial fitting (e.g.,
in the dental laboratory), the adhesive surfaces must
be cleaned after the trial fitting (we recommend using
sodium hypochlorite solution, Na
OC
l 5%), rinsed
thoroughly with water, and dried.
u
Use the disposable applicator to apply Scotchbond
Universal Plus Adhesive to the entire bonding surface
and rub it in for 20 sec. During treatment, rewet the
disposable applicator as required.
u
Subsequently direct a gentle stream of air over the
liquid for a minimum of 5 sec until it no longer moves
and the solvent has evaporated completely.
Pre-Treatment of Glass Fiber-reinforced Posts
We recommend the following procedure when using
RelyX
™
Fiber Posts:
u
Clean the RelyX Fiber Post with alcohol and dry it with
water-free and oil-free air.
u
When using RelyX Fiber Posts, application of a primer
is not required.
Please follow the instructions for use for other glass fiber-
reinforced posts. In the absence of specific instructions,
we recommend the following procedure:
Alternatively, a suitable silane (e.g., RelyX Ceramic
Primer) can be applied in accordance with the Instruc-
tions for Use.
Etching of the Tooth Structure (Optional, Depending on
the Type of Material and Indication)
Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive is self-etching.
Adhesion can be maximized by selective enamel etching
or by the etching of enamel and dentin (“Total Etch Proce-
dure”). Uncut enamel must be etched.
Total-Etch is required for veneers, occlusal veneers/
tabletops and for Maryland and inlay/onlay bridges.
Dentin may be etched solely when Scotchbond
Universal Plus is used subsequently; do not etch the
dentin for the self-adhesive use of RelyX Universal.
u
We recommend using a rubber dam.
u
Follow the instructions for use for the application of the
etching gel.
u
When using Scotchbond Universal Etchant, remove
the syringe from the foil pouch, unscrew the cap, and
attach an etching gel needle tip.
u
To avoid contamination of the etching gel syringe
during treatment, we recommend using the etching gel
syringe with a standard dental protective sleeve; see
Hygiene and Disinfection.
u
Apply the etching gel to the precise area of the enamel
and/or dentin and allow it to react for 15 sec. Then rinse
thoroughly for 15 sec with a water spray while using
suction.
u
Dry with water-free and oil-free air or with cotton pel-
lets. Do not overdry!
