During recording
Regularly check the quality of the
material with a computer connected via
a network cable. Open a file browser,
connect to server //192.168.100.1 (Mac:
smb://192.168.100.1) and open the
folder Video. If the computer reports
an error, check the network cable and
wait for 1 to 2 minutes for the network
connection.
Some Windows 7 computers initially
make a good connection, but the
connection is lost after about 1 minutes.
Do nothing, just wait for 1 to 2 minutes for
the connection to recover.
On the disk, each recording results in
several files. The 5th frame is saved as
a JPEG (.jpg extension), one for each
eye. Double-click this file for inspection.
Ctrl-select the two JPEGs and drag them
onto the icon of the stereo photo maker
tool (stphmkre) to see them side by side.
The camera will automatically split long
recordings into separate files, before
each AVI file has reached a 2 GB limit
Double-click the StereoscopicPlayer
file will play the recordings using
StereoscopicPlayer. With ‘Viewing
method’ you can change between
single eye, anaglyph and interlaced.
Do not do this while the camera is
recording, as the high data rates can
result in jitter in the recording. When
recording is stopped, you can play the
movies directly from the camera using
this method.
Replacing the storage
medium
Turn off recording, turn off the camera,
remove the HDD/SDD cartridge, insert
the new cartridge and turn on the
camera. Verify on the touch panel that
sufficient disk space is available.
Replacing the battery
If external power is available, connect
the camera to external power, remove
the battery by sliding it sideways,
slide in the replacement battery,
and disconnect the external power if
necessary.
If no external power is available, turn off
recording, turn off the camera, remove
the battery by sliding it sideways, slide
in the replacement battery, and turn on
the camera.
Backup and copy
Between and after recording, make
regular backups of the recordings. For
this, connect the camera to a computer,
open the disk (//192.168.100.1, on a
Mac smb://192.168.100.1), and open
the folder Videos. Shift-select the files
that you have not yet copied; they are
in chronological order with the date
and time encoded in the filename. Press
Ctrl-C to copy the files, open a directory
on the desktop to copy them to (e. g. 3D
movies/100819_Sail_2) and press Ctrl-V.
The laptop now copies the files from the
camera onto the laptop. With a CAT6
cable and a Gb network port on the
laptop the transfer speed is typically 15
to 20 Mbyte/s. Files recorded at ‘weak’
compression are copied about 3 times
faster than real time.
To make an external backup, connect a
USB disk to the laptop and copy the files
to the USB disk.
