Batteries
If running the camera on batteries,
use Sony BP-U30 or BP-U60 batteries
for the Sony EX cameras. The camera
can run for about 60 min on a single
fully charged Sony BP-U30 battery, and
about 2 hours on a fully charged BP-U60.
Note that the batteries are not charged
on the camera, even if the external
power supply is connected.
Carry a spare battery and a battery
charger to ensure that you always have
a spare battery at hand.
Depending on production tolerances
and wear of the batteries, and in case
of a significant sideways shock on the
camera, the battery can slide out. Do
not apply such shocks to avoid loss of
data, damage and injury. If shocks are
anticipated, put a piece of tape on the
housing over the battery (and hard disk,
see below) to fix it.
Data storage
The camera records on a HDD/SDD
cartridge, mounted in a special frame.
Do not remove the hard disk from the
camera while the camera is on. If you
do this, the camera will freeze and, if
you are recording, then the recorded file
might be corrupted.
Upon a hard shock in the direction of
the optical axis the hard disk may slide
out. Do not apply such shock to prevent
loss of data, damage and injury. If such
shocks are anticipated, put a piece of
tape on the housing over the hard disk
(and battery, see above) to fix it.
Only use 3D-ONE data cartridges. Disks
not supplied by 3D-ONE will not work.
Sound
The cameras record using the internal
stereo pair of microphones and or using
equipment attached to the external XLR
connectors.
The gain and the mixing of the 4
channels (left/right internal, 1/2
external) needs to be adjusted using
the potentiometers on the right side of
the camera. The camera will internally
combine all 4 channels into 2 channels.
If you use only the internal microphone,
reduce the gain of the external
microphone to 0. If you use only the
external microphone, reduce the gain of
the internal microphone to 0.
The internal microphones have a
kidney-shape response. To prevent wind
noise you can tape off the enclosure
of the internal microphone. The internal
microphone is very sensitive and might
capture also sound of the iris and focus
motors. For high quality audio recording
use the an external microphone
connected to the XLR inputs.
The headphone jack is currently only
operational in PLAY mode.
Turning on the camera
Press the power button on the backside
of the camera. The blue light in the
button turns on after about 2 seconds.
NOTE
If the VIEWFINDER shows no or a distorted
picture and the camera is on, then most
likely the HDMI outputs are activated
(see “[HDMI] HDMI” on page 14).
Camera configuration
Scroll through all pages on the touch
panel to check the settings, by pressing
the arrows at the top of the panel. The
top line shows the title of the page.
Sliders can be adjusted by pressing the
slider and moving it, or by pressing the
