Information Based
on the MAC
Address
When the Redundant Switch takes over, it is assigned the IP address of
the Main (active) Switch. However, each switch fabric module board has a
unique MAC address burned into its EPROM. This MAC address is used
by the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Enterprise Switch for two purposes:
For the IP stack
For the LES ATM address user part
When a Redundant Switch fabric module takes over after the primary
switch fabric module fails, the IP address, the ELAN names, and LES
address remain the same as they were in the primary switch.
Resetting to Factory
Defaults
The ELAN names and LES addresses (user part) change only if the user
performs a reset to factory defaults by LMA (or Telnet).
After the reset to factory defaults, the MAC address that is burned in the
active switch EPROM supersedes the one that is stored in the flash
memory, which results in new ELAN names and LES addresses.
CAUTION:
Resetting to factory default causes all connections to be
dropped until the new ELAN names are updated in the LECs.
Upgrading the
Software
When you upgrade a new software version to the active switch fabric
module, you must upgrade the redundant switch manually via the
(1) \(4) \(3) \(3) \(1) option in the LMA. While the software is being
upgraded, no redundancy is available on the modules.
