Switch-over Example
in CoreBuilder 7000
Assume a CoreBuilder 7000 consisting of two switching modules as
shown in Figure 63.

The LANE parameters are evaluated by the active switch and stored in
flash memory. After inserting the (redundant) second switching module,
the active module updates LANE parameters to the redundant switch’s
flash memory. In case of active switch failure, the redundant switch takes
over and the LANE parameters remain the same as they were before the
switch-over. The failed engine is replaced and becomes the new
redundant switching module as shown in Figure 64.

After inserting the new switching module, the active module updates the
new module’s flash memory with the current MAC address and ELAN
names taken from the active switch’s flash memory. Note that although
switching module A is not in the CoreBuilder 7000, the ELAN names and
MAC address used for the LES address remain as defined in that module.
In the configuration shown in Figure 63, the MAC address burned in
switching module A’s EPROM is used both for the IP stack and for the
LANE parameters. In Figure 64, the MAC address burned in switching
module B’s EPROM is used for the IP stack. Module B initiates a trap that
associates the new MAC address with the CoreBuilder 7000’s IP address.
