VP Tunneling

As mentioned previously, a virtual path (VP) is a set of virtual channels
with a common VPI value. A

VP tunnel

(virtual path tunnel) is a virtual

path which has been extended to include a signaling channel and an ILMI
channel, in addition to the call channels. Normally, this is accomplished by
assigning VCIs to a common VPI. The VPI values are allocated in the range
0 through 7; for each VPI value, the VCIs are allocated according to
Table 25.

In the CoreBuilder

®

7000HD, you set up VP tunnels within a port. Instead

of a standard port which has one signaling channel (VPI/VCI=0/5) and
one ILMI channel (VPI/VCI=0/16), you can set up eight VP tunnels in a
single port, corresponding to the eight possible VP values.
