Overview
This section provides information on LANs, WANs, TCP/IP parameters and configuring your prestige for
Internet access.
3.2 LANs and WANs
A LAN (Local Area Network) is a computer network limited to the immediate area, usually the same building
or floor of a building. A WAN (Wide Area Network), on the other hand, is an outside connection to another
network or the Internet.
3.2.1 LANs, WANs and the Prestige
The actual physical connection determines whether the Prestige ports are LAN or WAN ports. There are two
separate IP networks, one inside the LAN network; the other outside: the WAN network as shown next:
