Appendix A
TCP/IP Settings
There are two types of wireless networks:
Infrastructure
and
Ad
Hoc
.
•
In
an
Infrastructure
network, wireless devices
communicate with each other via a wireless access
point, router, or ADSL modem with built-in wireless
technology.
•
In
an
Ad Hoc
network, a group of wireless devices
communicate directly with other “client” devices that are
using wireless adapters. The network does not include a
wireless access point or router.
By default, Windows is set for
dynamic addressing (DHCP)
.
This is typically the correct setting for an Infrastructure network,
but needs to be changed to
static IP addressing
if you are
using an Ad Hoc network. (Note: Use our instructions as a basic
guide. Advanced users will know other ways to set up their
networks.)
To set up TCP/IP, please go to the section that corresponds to
your Windows or Mac operating system. Note that you normally
only set up TCP/IP in the unlikely event that you have an Ad Hoc
network.
