CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Check the engine oil level on a cold engine.
TIP:
_
If the engine was started before the oil level
was checked, be sure to warm up the engine
sufficiently, and then wait at least 10 minutes
until the oil settles for an accurate reading.
3. Remove:
• seats
• rear console
Refer to “SEATS, ENCLOSURE, HOOD
AND CARGO BED” in chapter 8.
4. Check:
• engine oil level
Oil level should be between the minimum
level mark

Add oil to the proper level.
TIP:
To obtain an accurate oil level reading, the dip-
stick must be inserted completely into the oil
filter hole.
NOTICE
• Engine oil also lubricates the clutch and the
wrong oil types or additives could cause
clutch slippage. Therefore, do not add any
chemical additives or use engine oils with a
grade of CD

or higher and do not use oils
labeled “ENERGY CONSERVING II”

• Do not allow foreign material to enter the
crankcase.

SAE 5W-30, YAMALUBE 4 (10W-
