Remove both ends of the choke link

Remove the starter/ flywheel cover
after removing 3 bolts.
Disconnect the wire leads connected
the starter/ flywheel cover.

Prepare the engine for starting. See
“STARTING ENGINE” for procedures.
Be sure the engine is in Neutral and
that the lanyard lock plate is attached
to the engine stop lanyard switch.
6)
Pull up the lever

on the carburetor
to operate the choke system when the
engine is cold.
After the engine starts, return the
lever to the original position.

7) Insert the knotted end of the emer-
gency starter rope into the notch in
the flywheel rotor and wind the rope
several turns clockwise.
8)
Pull the rope slowly until resistance is
felt.
9)
Give a strong pull straight out to
crank and start the engine. Repeat if
necessary.
