Starter motor / Charging system

Check the brush holder assembly for
continuity. Replace the brush holder if it is
not shown in the chart below.

Installing the starter motor pinion

1.

Install the starter motor pinion 

1

, new

spring

, pinion stopper

and then

press fit the new clip

Checking the starter motor opera-
tion

1.

Connect the battery cable, and then
check the operation of the starter motor.

Charging system

Checking the lighting coil

1.

Remove the cover.

2.

Disconnect the lighting coil connector.

3.

Connect the digital circuit tester with
peak voltage adapter B to the lighting
coil.

4.

Measure the lighting coil output peak
voltage. If the measurement is less tan
specification, measure the lighting coil
resistance.

NOTE:

Remove the all spark plug caps, when mea-
suring the lighting coil peak voltage at engine
cranking.

5.

Connect the digital circuit tester to the
lighting coil connector.
