3.3 JUMPERS
Prior to installing the XVME-682 I/O module, several jumper and switch options must be
configured. The configurations of the jumpers and switches are dependent upon the module
capabilities required for a particular application. Appendix B contains information depicting
the default (shipped) configurations for each module version.
3.3.1 Floppy Drive Controller Address
Jumper J1 controls which address range the floppy drive controller will occupy. Setting J1 to
A will use the secondary address of 372 to 377H. Setting it to B will use the primary address
of 3F2 to 3F7H. PC/AT default is B.
3.3.2 Hard Drive Controller Address
Jumper J2 controls which address range the floppy drive controller will occupy. Setting J1 to
A will use the secondary address of 170 to 177H. Setting it to B will use the primary address
of 1F0 to 1F7H. PC/AT default is B.
3.3.3 Read Latch
Jumper J3 controls whether ornot the Status Read is latched. If the jumper is IN, the read is
latched. The jumper OUT will mean the Status Read is not latched (this option is used with
the Compaq 286). The PC/AT default is IN.
3.3.4 Hard Disk Drive
The J4A setting supports a 2-head, 612-cylinder hard-disk drive with standard system setup
for 4-head, 306-cylinder drive. The
J4B setting ties the firmware
sensing bit "high" for hard-
. disk interface (PC/AT default).
3.3.5 Step Rate
J5A selects a 16 microsec. step rate instead of 35 microsec. step rate, while J5B ties the buffer
manager control processor input "high" (PC/AT default).
3.3.6 Monitor Address
Jumnper J6 selects what address range the EGA Controller will use. If J6 is IN, the EGA
controller I/O address is set to 2xxH. When OUT, the EGA controller I/O address set to 3xxH
