4.5 Injection Control Unit − Leakage
WARNING
Injury Hazard: Always put on gloves and safety goggles when you
do work on hot components. When drain screws and plugs are
opened, fuel can come out as a spray and cause injury.
If the level switch (19, Fig. 1 ) (LS3446A) activates an alarm and no leakage was
found during a check of the HP fuel pipes 3.47 (1, Fig. 5 ) in paragraph 4.4 , do the
procedure that follows:
1) On the drain pipe (3, Fig. 6), carefully loosen the screw-in union (4)
approximately two turns.
2) If fuel flows from the screw-in union (4) more than usual (compared to the
amount of leakage from the other ICU), the fuel quantity piston of the related
ICU (1) is defective.
WARNING
Injury Hazard: The fuel system has high pressure. Replace a
defective injection control unit (ICU) only when the engine has
stopped.
3) Remove the ICU (1) from the fuel rail (2). For the procedure, see the
Maintenance Manual 5564 − 1.
4) Send the defective ICU (1) to WinGD for an overhaul. As an alternative, you can
use the fuel quantity piston kit CX55414 and do an overhaul on board.
