As an alternative procedure to find the defective HP fuel pipe (1, Fig. 6 ) do the steps
that follows:
Note: Do the procedure that follows only when the estimated engine power in
flexView is between 25% and 30% and when all three fuel injection valves
of the ICU are activated. Make sure that the engine load is not too high.
Note: When you remove the cable from the rail valve, the failure message “ME
Injection time too long (ID88)” is transmitted to the alarm and monitoring
system (AMS). For more data, see 0850 − 1 Failure and Defects of WECS
Components.
1) On the related ICU (2), disconnect the upper plug (9) to one of the rail valves (8).
This will stop the fuel flow to the related fuel injection valve.
2) At the plug (6), do a check for fuel:
a) If fuel stops to flow after some seconds, this related HP fuel pipe (1) is
defective. Do the steps 3) to 6) to replace the defective HP fuel pipe (1).
b) If fuel continues to flow, repeat step 1) to 2) with the other rail valves (8).
3) Stop the engine (see 0310 − 1 Engine Shutdown, paragraph 2).
4) Make sure that there is no pressure in the fuel system (see 0515 − 1 Faults in the
High Pressure Fuel System, paragraph 5.3).
5) Do a check for damage on the sealing face (7) of the defective HP fuel pipe (1). If
you find damage, you must grind the sealing face (see the Maintenance
Manual 8733 − 1).
6) If it is necessary to replace the defective HP fuel pipe (1). For the procedure, see
the Maintenance Manual 8733 − 1 and 0510 − 1 Operation with Injection Cut Out,
paragraph 2.2.
