Warning:
To avoid personal contamination with biologically hazardous, toxic, and corrosive
materials, wear chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves when performing this procedure.
To clean the differential aperture:
1. Place the differential aperture in the glass vessel for cleaning.
2. Add Waters MS Cleaning Solution or 1:1 methanol/water to the vessel until the differential
aperture is immersed completely.
3. Place the cleaning vessel with the differential aperture in an ultrasonic bath for 20 minutes.
4. Carefully pour the used cleaning solution from the cleaning vessel into the holding
container, retaining the differential aperture in the cleaning vessel.
Tip:
You can reuse Waters MS Cleaning Solution for one subsequent cleaning.
5. Fill the cleaning vessel with deionized water to rinse the differential aperture, and then
discard the water.
6. Repeat step 5 to rinse the differential aperture a second time.
7. Fill the cleaning vessel with isopropyl alcohol until the differential aperture is immersed
completely.
8. Carefully remove the differential aperture from its cleaning vessel and blow-dry the
component using inert, oil-free gas.
9. Discard the used isopropyl alcohol using an appropriate waste container.
4.14.5 Cleaning the ion guide assembly
Notice:
To avoid damaging the ion guide assembly, use only methanol and water as
solvents. Do not use acetone, chlorinated solvents, or acid.
Required materials
• Chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves
• Appropriately sized glass vessels in which to completely immerse components when
cleaning. Use only glassware not previously cleaned with surfactants.
• Suitable length of PEEK or PTFE tubing used for suspending the ion guide assembly in the
glass cleaning vessel
• Large beaker and Wash bottle for rinsing the ion guide assembly
• Ultrasonic bath
• Waters MS Cleaning Solution (186006846) or HPLC-grade (or better) 1:1 methanol/water
• HPLC-grade (or better) methanol
