3. Turn the key to position “III” to start. Release the key as soon as
the engine has started, the key will automatically return to the “I”
position. If the engine did not start the key must first be turned to
the “0” position before trying again.
IMPORTANT! If the starter motor is engaged for its maximum
engagement time (20–30 seconds) let it cool down for five
minutes before trying to start the engine again.
Note. The electronic diesel control (EDC) system is active during
starting in order to minimize exhaust emissions. At low operating
temperatures the starter turns over the engine 1–4 times (depend-
ing on temperature) to raise the combustion temperature before
fuel is injected.
4. There is no need to warm the engine up at idle speed. The best
way to warm up the engine is to run the engine at low load until it
has reached an steady operating temperature.
IMPORTANT! Do not race the engine while it is cold.
