To uninstall the USB Virtual COM Port driver:
1) Go to the System Device Manager feature of the Windows Control Panel. Each version of the Windows operating system has a slightly
different way to access the Control Panel and the System Device Manager feature. Refer to the Help system for your version of
Windows to determine how to access the Control Panel’s System Device Manager feature.
2) Click
COM Ports
in the Device Manager.
3) Right-click on
USB Serial Port
. You must remove the COM Port driver before the Universal Serial Bus Controller driver or you won’t be
able to find the COM Port driver.
4) Select
Uninstall
.
5) Go to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers listing and right-click on
USB Serial Converter.
6) Click
Uninstall
.
7) To finish uninstalling the USB Virtual COM Port driver on Windows XP, you must remove the driver INF and PNF files manually.
a. In the control panel go to
Folder Options > View
and select the
Show hidden files in folders
and
display the contents of
system folders
options.
b. Search the Windows/INF folder file for
FTDIBUS.INF
with the
Word or phrase in the file
option selected. This returns a file
named with the format of oem##.inf. Delete this oem##.inf file.
c. Search for the oem##.pnf file with the same number and delete it.
d. Search the Windows file for
FTDIPORT.INF
with the
Word or phrase in the file
option selected. This returns a file named with
the format of oem##.inf. Delete this oem##.inf file.
e. Search for the oem##.pnf file with the same number and delete it.
8) You have successfully removed the USB Virtual COM Port driver.
