DISCARDING ERRONEOUS DEPTH DATA
It is a fact of hydrographic surveying that occasional spurious data points will be encountered from false echoes.
SurveyLog allows such points to be ignored in Valeport and XYZ files. Simply set the lower and upper limits for valid
data points before clicking on either the “View Translated VAL File” or the “View Translated XYZ file” buttons. In the
example screen shown under Section 5.6, points below 0.0 and above 100.0m depth will be ignored.
5.6.3
VALEPORT FORMAT FILES
To view a Valeport format file, which allows Time Series Data and Plots, click the “View Translated VAL File” button.
Highlight the required file when asked. Data may be viewed in either a list (notebook) type format or graphically. When
the file is opened, the following screen appears, listing out all the possible data line types (as described under the ASCII
file formats, Section 5.6.1.1). Only the selected data types will be opened from the chosen file (if available).
