SURVEYLOG SOFTWARE
5.1
INTRODUCTION
SurveyLog is the user interface program supplied with the MIDAS Surveyor GPS Echosounder system from Valeport Ltd.
The program is written in Delphi, and will run on all PCs operating Windows 95 or above. As is the nature of all software,
the faster the computer, the better the software will perform. As an absolute minimum, we recommend the following PC
specification:
•
Pentium 100MHz (or equivalent)
•
32Mbyte RAM
•
CDROM Drive
•
1 spare comm port
•
100Mbyte Disk Space
Note that installation of SurveyLog itself requires only a few Mbyte of disk space. However, Windows will utilise a large
amount of disk space as “virtual memory” (upwards of 20Mbyte), which must be taken into account. Further, note that a
16Mbyte binary file from the instrument will translate to over 110Mbyte of calibrated text files – make sure that there is
enough hard disk space to allow for translation of any uploaded files.
This manual will guide the operator through all the functions that SurveyLog has to offer, including data extraction and a
wide variety of data viewing formats. Please note that although SurveyLog offers a variety of data display modes, it
offers no data editing features, so users may wish to use a standard hydrographic survey package for data manipulation.

INSTALLATION
As with all installation programs, we recommend that all other applications be closed before commencing installation.
SurveyLog is supplied on a single CDROM. It does features an Auto-run facility, but if this does not start users will be
required to run the Setup.exe program manually. This can be done either by selecting Run from the Start menu, and
browsing for the Setup.exe file under the CD drive (typically drive D or E), or by clicking on the Setup.exe program under
the CD drive in Windows Explorer.
The Setup.exe program will launch a wizard that will guide the user through the remainder of the installation process. By
default, the installation program will create a new directory in which to install SurveyLog, although you may change this if
you wish:
C:\Program Files\SurveyLog
On completion of installation, a window will appear with a shortcut icon to the
program. This may be dragged onto the desktop if required:
Note that SurveyLog software is distributed free with the equipment – therefore no password or software key is required
for installation.
To Run the software, simply double click the Desktop icon. The following pages describe the operation of the software.
