1. Interface Description
SNMP
(
Simple Network Management Protocol) is a Network Management standard Protocol widely
used in TCP/IP networks. SNMP provides a way to manage devices by running network management
software on a central computer (network management workstation). The characteristics of SNMP are
as follows:
Simple: SNMP adopts polling mechanism and provides the most basic function set, which is suitable
for small, fast and low-cost environment. Moreover, SNMP is carried by UDP message, so it is
supported by most devices. Powerful: the goal of SNMP is to ensure the transmission of management
information at any two points, so that administrators can retrieve information at any node on the
network, make modifications and troubleshoot failures. SNMP protocol is widely used in three
versions, namely SNMPv1, SNMPv2c and SNMPv3. SNMP System consists of NMS (Network
Management System), Agent process, managed object and MIB (Management Information Base).
NMS as the network management center of the entire network, it manages the device. Each managed
device contains Agent processes MIB, and multiple managed objects residing on the device. NMS
interacts with the Agent running on the managed device, and the Agent completes the instructions of
the NMS through the operation of the MIB on the device end.
