Chapter 5: Color Correction in the CMYK Color Space: Expert Mode
5-19
•
UCR/GCR: activates the UCR (Undercolor Removal)/GCR (Gray Component
Replacement) curve. This curve allows you to specify how much Cyan,
Magenta, and Yellow is replaced with Black in the neutral areas. The higher
the UCR/GCR percentage, the less total ink is used on the press. The
UCR/GCR curve is very similar to the Grad 4 curve in relation to Grad 3.
The area between Grad 3 and the UCR/GCR curve represents the black gen-
erated by lowering your total ink. To remove or reduce black in certain
tonal regions, select the appropriate node on the UCR/GCR curve and move
it up towards the Grad 3 curve. Whenever the two curves meet, there will be
no black generated.
•
Black: activates the Black density curve, with which you can directly adjust
the amount of Black ink to be used along the tonal range of the image. This
curve is automatically set from the Grad 4 and UCR/GCR curves, and does
not need to be adjusted.
