Employee to Retain
Occupational Health and Safety Standards
for Termite Barrier System Installers
In addition to the details in Work Method Statements (for high risk work) as well
as other relevant documents relating to the site, as a Termite Barrier System
Installer I / we will manage general health and safety issues as follows:
Work at height
Fall protection will be in place in the following instances:
(a) where a person could fall at least 3 metres for housing construction only: or
(b) where a person could fall at least 2.4 metres for non-housing construction only: or
(c) where the pitch of a roof is more than 26 degrees regardless of the potential fall height.
For works other than (a), (b) or (c), a risk assessment will be performed to ensure that risk of injury
from a fall is not increased by other factors. (e.g. exposed starter bars).
Working platforms
Low level working platforms
“A” frame trestles, hanging brackets and other low level working platforms will comply with and be
used in accordance with
Australian Standard AS6001
– Working Platforms for Housing Construction
.
In particular:

Only one person will be supported in any one bay of a working platform unless the working
platform is rated light duty (225kg);

“A” frame trestle will be placed on a firm level surface with legs secured to prevent spreading.

Planks will overlap their supports by not less than 150mm nor more than 250mm. Planks will
be secured to prevent any movement.
Other working platforms
Trestle ladders will be erected and used in accordance with suppliers’ instructions and comply with
Australian Standard AS1892
– Trestle Ladders
. Working platforms on scaffolds will comply with the
relevant parts of Australian Standard for Scaffolding (AS1576) .
In particular:

Work platforms will be fully decked with no void areas.

Access to the platform will be by way of a secure ladder, stair or tower system.

Fall protection will be in place and complete where required.
Scaffolds will not be altered or moved unless first gaining approval from the principal contractor.
Scaffold at a height of 4 metres or above will be erected and dismantled by a competent person
holding a scaffolding certificate.
