33. Check the correct positional setting of the pinion as follows:-
(i)
Check the nominal pinion cone setting distance from chart 1.
(ii)
Check the variation figure marked on the head of the pinion. This figure is given in
thousandths of an inch.
(iii) Add these figures to give the actual required pinion cone setting distance:-

(iv) Read the differential bearing seat diameter from chart 1. (Which is 3.4392" Mean)
(v)
Subtract half the figure at 33 (iv) from that at 33 (iii) to give nominal clock setting
height.

34. Using a small magnetic base clock and a setting piece or slip blocks set the clock to
the dimension obtained in 33. This method of clock setting is as shown in Fig. 17.
