13. Remove companion flange from pinion using withdrawal tool or by supporting
pinion inside carrier and tapping pinion thread end with hide hammer.
14. Remove pinion complete with inner bearing cone.
15. Remove inner bearing from pinion using service tool, see Fig. 6.
REMOVAL OF OIL SEAL, BEARINGS ETC
16. Remove oil seal, gasket and oil thrower - discard seal and gasket and replace with
new parts.
17. Remove outer pinion bearing cone part (item 26).
18. Remove inner and outer bearings cups from carrier. (Extraction slots are provided
in the carrier for ease of removal purposes). Carefully note the shim pack thickness
under the inner cup. (See item 22 on assembly drawing 3-a). Discard the shims
because of possible damage during removal, see Fig. 7.
18A If no spacer is fitted, pinion outer bearing shims will be fitted as shown on drawing
3-2-3A relate to items 22 & 24 Replace with new shims to give the required pinion
bearing preload of 0.003 “ -0.005 “.
