8 MAINTENANCE & LUBRICATION
8.14 FLAIL PADDLE BLADE MAINTENANCE ___________________________________
Each day a check on the blades for free movement must be
done. No more than 5 mm (1/4inch) of free movement (A)
toward the rota is allowed before replacement.
The maximum recommended-weight difference between
blade is ± five grammes (0.17ounce.).
When, you replace blades they must be replaced as
opposed pairs (B) to maintain balance.
When fitting blades, tighten the first nut with your fingers to
5Nm (use Bondloc B243 or equivalent).
Tighten the second nut to 21 - 48 Nm while you hold the first
nut with a spanner.
Opposed blades can be sharpened if the edge is damaged. A maximum of 5 mm 1/4inch) can be ground or filed
off the tip (C) before replacement is necessary
8.15 FLAIL HALF “Y” BLADE MAINTENANCE __________________________________
Each day a check on the blades for free movement must be
done. No more than 5 mm (1/4inch) of free movement (A)

When the edges become warn and damaged, they can be
reversed.
When, you replace blades they must be replaced as
opposed pairs (B) to keep balance.
When fitting blades, tighten the first nut with your fingers to
5Nm (use Bondloc B243 or equivalent).
Tighten the second nut to 21 - 48 Nm while you hold the first
nut with a spanner.
The deflectors / flaps must be replaced if damaged
.
WARNING
Inspect and replace immediately any flails, lugs and retaining hardware that show any
indication of cracks, heavy damage or more than expected wear. Failure to replace damaged
parts can cause parts to be thrown out without warning. More than expected wear or
damaged parts will unbalance the rotor and cause lasting damage. When you operate with
an unbalanced rotor it will cause accelerated wear, increased vibration and possible
dangerous operator fatigue
